Thirty-eight years ago, the X68000 earned its place in gaming history with remarkable performance and a distinctive design. Two years ago, fueled by the incredible support of passionate backers, we revived this retro console as the X68000 Z. Today, we’re thrilled to present our latest chapter—featuring two iconic models brought to life with enhanced authenticity and modern functionality:
If you love classic gaming or want to own a unique piece of digital history, we invite you to join us in preserving the X68000’s “what if” future for the retro gaming community worldwide.
At Zuiki Inc., we have extensive experience developing and manufacturing miniature retro game consoles—some so famous that even casual gamers recognize them. However, not every legendary machine is known to everyone. Some are cult favorites, cherished for their power to spark nostalgia among dedicated fans. Driven by our passion and a sense of responsibility as developers, we launched the X68000 revival project, known as “Project Z.”
Building on past successes, this fourth edition of Project Z focuses on reviving the X68000 Z SUPER and X68000 Z XVI in close collaboration with our retro gaming community.
A modern recreation of Sharp Corporation’s seventh model in the X68000 series (originally released in 1991, excluding HD variants). The legendary “Manhattan shape” is faithfully preserved, while adopting a luxurious titanium-black finish that exudes both prestige and classic appeal. Additionally, X68000 Z SUPER can be customized into the more angular X68000 Z XVI style, reflecting the evolution the original series took.
In response to numerous requests, we’re also offering a standalone X68000 Z XVI unit. Known for its sharper chassis lines and improved clock speeds, it continues the X68000 legacy for fans who prefer this bold design.
Note: A general-purpose Zuiki emulator compatible with X68000 Z XVI hardware is scheduled for release in winter 2025 or later.
Our “Project Z” initiative started about three years ago with:
An early evaluation model aimed at developers and skilled enthusiasts. Their hands-on feedback helped us refine our approach.
Crowdfunded in December 2022. Astonishingly, it reached its funding goal within one hour, surpassed ¥100 million in four hours, and ended with over ¥3.5 billion—exceeding 1000% of the initial target.
Officially launched on September 28, 2023, featuring further refinements informed by the EARLY ACCESS KIT.
Since then, we’ve continually released retro game software and updates, and established “Z-CLUB,” our official online community for X68000 Z owners to interact, share content, and collaborate on future developments.
